What were Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Beliefs?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. believed in the racial and ethnic equality of all people, nonviolent protest and the beloved community. King was a pacifist who patterned his protests after Mahatma Gandhi, who worked for social change without using violence.

King was one of the main driving forces behind the Civil Rights movements, as he worked tirelessly to help achieve equality for African-Americans. He also believed in the "Beloved Community," a term first used by Josiah Royce. The term referred to his belief that all people should be able to have enough to eat, enough money to sustain themselves, and a roof above their heads. It also referred to how he valued love and peace rather than hate and war.
