What is white balance?

White balance is the process of adjusting the colors in an image so they are realistic and accurate. Human eyes have no problem with white balance, but cameras often have problems.

A photo may have a strange blue, orange or yellow shade if a camera does not have proper white balance. These colors are caused by the color temperature of the light sources in the photo. Color temperature refers to the warmth or the coolness of white light. Different lighting causes different color casts. Fluorescent light adds a bluish color to photos while incandescent lights adds a yellowish color to photos.
