How do you find wills and public records in New Jersey?

Public records are available online but wills must be obtained from the specific New Jersey Surrogate Court where the will was entered into probate. New Jersey does not have a state wide database for wills.

The state of New Jersey does, however, have a voluntary will registry where will registrations are accessible for a fee of $10, as of 2015. Inclusion in the registry is voluntary on the part of the person making the will or his attorney. A request form is available and must be submitted to the Secretary of State. The State of New Jersey has an online public records database for information such as criminal histories and census information. Access to public records is free.
