What is Windows RT?

Windows RT is a Windows-based operating system designed for use on personal computers and mobile devices that use ARM processors. Windows RT was first used in Microsoft's Surface RT tablet in 2012. Windows RT only runs applications downloaded directly from the Windows store.
Windows RT is very similar to PC versions of Microsoft Windows and includes some of the same features, such as Internet Explorer and mail, along with photo and calendar applications. Windows RT, however, does not include Windows Media Player or Media Center. Windows RT is compatible with peripherals such as mice, keyboards and speakers that carry the RT logo. It operates directly out of the box, requiring no driver installation.
