Are wishing wells safe to have around children?

Children can remain safe around wishing wells as long as adults take proper precautions, such as providing constant supervision of children while they are near the wishing well. Placing a secure, childproof cover over the wishing well also makes it safer to have around children.

Because young children can drown in less than 2 inches of water, it's important to watch them very closely when they are near water. Fountains, ornamental fish ponds, buckets containing liquids, inflatable pools or ditches filled with rainwater may pose a hazard to children. Completely fencing off areas with pools, hot tubs or spas helps prevent accidents.
