Where was Woodstock?

The Woodstock Music Festival in 1969 was held in the town of Bethel, N.Y., on land owned by dairy farmer Max Yasgur. Organizers wanted to hold the festival in the town of Woodstock, N.Y., but a suitable venue could not be found.

After the town of Woodstock was eliminated as a venue, the event was scheduled to take place in the town of Wallkill, N.Y. However, a month before the festival was set to take place, permits were revoked, forcing the move to Bethel. Additional events held under the name Woodstock took place in 1979, 1989, 1994 and 1999, with the 1989 edition taking place in the same location as the original Woodstock in 1969.
