The traditional Christmas dinner in Germany is roast poultry or game served with apple and sausage stuffing, potato dumplings and red cabbage. This is often followed by the German fruitcake, stollen. Gluhwein, which is mulled red wine that is sometimes mixed with brandy, might also be served.
Stollen, which is made with fruit and nuts, has become popular around the world, similar to many other German Christmas traditions. The advent calendar, wreath and even the practice of decorating a Christmas tree all originated in Germany.
Some other foods traditionally eaten at Christmas in Germany include gingerbread, apples and chocolate, all of which are also used to adorn the Christmas tree, or "tannenbaum."
