To write a support letter to immigration for an individual, address the letter to the appropriate embassy or state department, provide an overview of your relationship with the applicant, then detail positive character traits of the applicant. Examples of the applicant's accomplishments, service to the community and workplace success are important notes to include before closing the letter by thanking the office for considering the request.
- Provide an opening statement
Address the letter to a specific individual in the department where the applicant has applied, and write an opening statement that details information about yourself, such as "I am a resident of this country and personally vouch for this individual."
- Detail your relationship with the applicant
Provide an overview of the relationship you have with the applicant. For example, detail the amount of time the person has been your acquaintance, co-worker, friend or family member. If possible, include details about how the applicant impressed you upon first meeting.
- Share character traits
Detail the positive character traits of the applicant, and provide examples to support these claims. For example, if the person is kind and giving, note how he volunteers within the community or donates his time at animal shelters. Be generous and honest when sharing character traits.
- Close the letter
Thank the individual you are writing to for his time, and sign the letter. Contact information should be provided at the top or bottom of the letter in case more information is desired.
