Divorce became legal in different years in various countries. In the United States, divorce legislation differs from one state to another. The no-fault divorce was legalized in California in 1969.
Except for Philippines and Vatican City, all countries have legislation related to divorce. In Canada, divorce became legal in 1968. Italy introduced a divorce law in 1970, the United Kingdom in 1973, India in 1955, South Africa in 1979 and Brazil in 1977. Most countries had had legislation regarding divorce prior to the laws that are in place today. The Civil Code or Family Code legislates divorce in many countries.
