Approximately 16 thousand inmates are incarcerated at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. In 2009, officials at the Detention Center made the decision to post all mug shots online in response to receiving approximately one thousand calls per day inquiring about the status of people who had been recently incarcerated. Previous protocols meant that anyone inquiring would have to call to make a specific request for an individual mugshot.
