On September 11, 2012, a group of protestors gathered around the U.S. Diplomatic Mission compound. The crowd consisted of 125 to 150 gunmen wearing the Afghan-style tunics. The militants targeted both the U.S. Diplomatic Mission and the CIA headquarters.\nThe first assault, on the Diplomatic Mission, occurred at 9:40 p.m. local time. The CIA headquarters, 1.2 miles away, came under attack from mortar fire at 4:00 a.m. the following morning.
