Creeks often had two houses, one for summer and one for winter. Both homes were in the same village and centered around a central plaza; with this setup, families would simply move a few feet with the change of seasons. While providing warmth in the winter and relief from the heat in the summer, the setup also served as a way to fool enemy tribes into believing the village housed more people than it actually did.

His method of production was too time-intensive to be practical on an industrial scale. The British inventors Clayton Beadle, Edward Bevan and Charles Cross refined Audemars' technique in 1894, adapting it for large-scale production. Their product was known as viscose, because it was the viscous product of a reaction with carbon disulfide and cellulose. The word "rayon" wasn't used to describe the cellulose-based, semi-synthetic fabric until 1924.

Astronomers outside of England rejected that name and eventually settled on the name Uranus, father of Saturn (or Cronus) in Greek mythology. In deference to Herschel, the satellites of Uranus were named after literary characters in Shakespeare and Alexander Pope.\nNearly a century earlier, the astronomer Flamsteed had observed the planet in the same area of the sky, but, mistaking it for a star, designated it as 34 Tauri in his catalog. When astronomers calculated the orbit of Uranus, they discovered the planet took 84 years to circle the sun one time. This is almost three times as long as th..

Before serving as president, Grant's military victories in the Civil War led Abraham Lincoln to appoint him the commanding general of the Union armies. In this role, Grant was responsible for routing Robert E. Lee in a series of battles in 1864 and leading the Union to victory over the Confederacy. This popularity led to his election as president, where he attempted to protect African-American citizenship in the South.
