How many meters are there in a hectometer?

The meter represents the basic unit of measurement in the metric system. For example, distances traveled are measured in meters, not hectometers. In fact, the hectometer is not widely used in those countries that utilize the metric system as a means of measurement. There are 10,000 centimeters in a hectometer. A hectometer should not be confused with a hectare, which is the metric term used in place of acre. A hectare is 1,000 square meters.
What is the difference between NADP and NADPH?

NADPH results after the reduction of NADP+, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, a coenzyme that plays specific roles in a wide range of anabolic reactions. NADPH acts as a reducing agent during the synthesis of nucleic acids and lipids. It is also involved in the process of carbohydrate synthesis that takes place in plants. As a reduced compound, NADPH becomes a molecule with high energy, thus being especially useful in driving the Calvin cycle. It's also important during the process that transforms carbon dioxide into glucose.\nA compound called ferredoxin-NADP+ reductase pla..
What causes an ocean trench to form?

When forming an ocean trench, a heavy tectonic plate's edge presses against a lighter tectonic plate's edge. At the place where the plates meet, the heavier tectonic plate subducts below the lighter tectonic plate to form the subduction zone. The subduction zone is the site called an ocean trench. Ocean trenches most commonly form when a tectonic plate comprised of oceanic crust meets a tectonic plate comprised of continental crust, although some rarer trenches have been formed by two layers of oceanic crust meeting.
How do you find the final velocity?

Obtain the value of initial velocityAssume the body in motion began with an initial velocity of u and had an increase in velocity or change in velocity. After some time t, the object moves with another velocity which is the final velocity.Determine the change in velocityAssume that a body in motion begins with an initial velocity u and with a constant acceleration a. After a time t, the change in velocity is obtained as acceleration × time or a × t which is merely written as "at".\n\n\nCalculate the final velocityCalculate the final velocity; bearing in mind that the body began motion with ..
What is the role of the muscular system?

The human body has over 650 muscles that have varying roles, including movement, posture, balance, strength, heat generation, digestion and respiration. However, the three main muscles that make up the muscular system are the skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscles.\nThe skeletal muscle is mainly responsible for movement. Each physical function consciously performed by a person, such as speaking and walking, requires the skeletal muscle. These muscles are attached to the bones by fibers known as tendons.\nThe smooth muscle is an involuntary muscle found inside organs, such as the blood vessels, l..
How many atoms of hydrogen are there in 18 grams of water?

A molecule of water consists of a single atom of oxygen and two atoms of hydrogen. Oxygen has an atomic weight of 15.9994. One mole of oxygen, therefore, has a mass of just under 16 grams. Hydrogen has an atomic weight of 1.0079, and so a mole of hydrogen weighs just over 1 gram. This means that 18 grams of water contains one 16-gram mole of oxygen and two 1-gram moles of hydrogen. The number of particles in a mole is a constant known as Avogadro's number, which has a value of 6.022 x 10^23. Two moles of hydrogen, therefore, is double Avogadro's number.
Why is copper a good conductor?

Electricity functions by moving electrons through a circuit. As an electron on one atom is detached, it causes the electron on the atom next to it to detach as well. This chain reaction continues through the entire circuit. Copper's electrons move without much resistance, making it a great conductor.\nCopper is a better conductor than gold, and its lower cost makes it the preferred option. However, there is a better conductor available: silver. While silver's high cost makes it prohibitively expensive for many tasks, its conductive performance is superior to all other metals, and it ..
Why is cobalt important in medicine?

Cobalt-60 is used for radiation therapy because the gamma radiation beam is precise and it does little, if any, damage to surrounding tissue. Cobalt radiation therapy can be used anywhere on the body, but it is particularly useful in the brain, notes the American Brain Tumor Association. Cobalt-60 directs 200 beams of radiation toward cancerous cells while the person's head is held in place by a special rigid frame. Treatment lasts anywhere from several minutes to a few hours. After the procedure, which requires a local anesthetic, the individual can return to normal activities.\nCobalt d..
How does a comet begin and end?

A comet is also called a planetesimal, and it comes from the outer realms of the solar system. There are millions of comets in all directions at the far edge of the solar system. These icy comets orbit the sun in distant places, namely the Oort Cloud and the Kuiper Belt. They spend billions of years in these places. When two comets crash or draw close to one another, they change directions. This sometimes leads them to a path toward the inner solar system.\nComets shine brighter as they approach the warmer inner solar system. They also start to melt and leave tails that consist of plasma and d..
What does 20 cubic yards of dirt look like?

Today's Homeowner recommends having dirt dumped as closely as possible to the site of use. Each cubic yard of soil weighs about 2,200 pounds, so moving 20 cubic yards of dirt by hand is labor intensive. It takes nine loads with a medium-sized wheelbarrow to move a single cubic yard of dirt.\nWhen buying dirt, selecting the right type for the job is essential. If the project is providing fill for under a concrete floor or an above ground swimming pool, sand is appropriate. If planning a garden or raised beds, top soil necessary. If buying from a nursery, it is often possible to have the nu..
