Why do you use a coverslip when making a wet mount?

One main goal when using a coverslip is to ensure an appropriate amount of liquid or sample on the slide. If there is too much liquid, the coverslip does not stay in place. Excess water may be removed by placing an absorbent material near the edge of the slip to draw water out. Lack of water under the coverslip can be remedied by placing a drop of water on the outside of the slip near its edge.

Each chromosome is comprised of a DNA molecule made up of nucleotides in a double-strand formation that resembles a ladder with a twist. This formation is called a double helix. Each nucleotide is made up of sugar, a phosphate and a base. There are four different bases: adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine. The order in which these four bases pair with each other to create sequences of base-pairs is what determines the encoding of the genetic information, much like letters combine to form words.
