Although 1879 marks the year that psychology as an individual science began, it had long been a branch of philosophy. Rene Descartes lived from 1596 to 1650 and is known for his Cartesian Dualism that states while the mind and body are different, the mind can influence the body and the body can influence the mind.

A survey conducted at North Carolina Children's Hospital of teens aged 11 to 18 found that boys are more likely to wish for success while girls are more likely to wish for happiness. Both sexes are equally likely to wish for a change in appearance or athletic success. Thirty-two percent of participants made wishes for others, such as "I wish my mom didn't have cancer" and "I wish I could solve global warming."

Job 2:13 mentions that Job's friends sat with him through part of it for "seven days and seven nights," so the length of time was definitely more than one week.
