The 1 percent motorcycle club is known as an outlaw club or gang that is possibly involved in criminal activity. The 1 percent means that only 1 percent of all bikers are outlaws, and the term originated as a defense against violent stereotypes.
The 1 percent motorcycle clubs began in 1974 in California. Some of the 1 percent clubs are well-known. The Hell's Angels are said to be a 1 percent club. Several of the clubs have been prosecuted by law enforcement for drug trafficking, for selling illegal firearms and for numerous other charges. A 1 percent club is thought to have different ranks for members. Each member begins as a prospect and must earn the title of full member by obeying senior members.
