The 1963 Franklin D. Roosevelt dime is 90 percent silver, a total of .0723 ounces of the precious metal. About 123,650,000 of the coins were produced, including 3 million "proofs" made specifically for collectors.
As of 2014, a standard issue is valued anywhere from $3 to $7, depending on its condition. The rarer proofs are worth as much as $20. According to Coin Trackers, based on a recent market value of $19.74 per silver ounce, the value of the precious metal content alone is about $1.43, making the coin more valuable to a collector than a silver bug looking to make a quick buck.
