How much does it cost to mail a letter?

As of January 2014, the cost to mail a first-class letter weighing 1 ounce or less using the U.S. Postal Service is 49 cents. Each additional ounce costs 21 cents. The cost of mailing a postcard increased from 33 cents to 34 cents in January of 2014.

The cost of a stamp increased in January 2014 for the third straight year. In 2012, the cost of a stamp went from 44 cents to 45 cents, and the following year, the cost increased to 46 cents. The 3-cent increase in 2014 is the largest price jump since 2002 when the cost of a stamp went from 34 cents to 37 cents.
