What is a 3.5 GPA?

A 3.5 grade point average indicates that the student has an average of an "A" in all of her classes. The GPA takes into account the course credits, course hours and grade in its calculation.

On a numeric scale, a 3.5 GPA would translate to an average of 90 percent for all of the student's classes. The GPA is on a 4.0 scale, so a GPA of a 4.0 would translate to a percentile score between 95 and 100. Students should keep in mind that certain universities and colleges may use percentage scores instead of grade point averages to assess achievement.
