Tizanidine is a muscle relaxer that is used to treat muscle spasms that are caused by conditions including multiple sclerosis and injuries to the spinal cord. The 4 milligram part relates to the dose of the tablet and they should be taken every six to eight hours, or as directed by the physician. No more than 36 milligrams or three doses should be taken within 24 hours.
Alcohol should not be consumed when on tizanidine and the patient should not stop taking the drug without consultation with their doctor. Withdrawal symptoms are possible, especially for those that have taken it for a long time.
