The .50 caliber Browning Machine Gun round is among the largest rifle-fired cartridges in use. It has a bullet diameter of roughly half an inch and a length of nearly four inches. The M82A1 is capable of accurately firing this round over a mile. It's primarily used to destroy enemy installations, vehicles and equipment. It has a secondary role as an anti-personnel weapon but usually only against targets behind cover.
