The idea for the "The 700 Club" originated in 1963 when Pat Robertson held a telethon asking for 700 callers to pledge $10 a month to cover the expenses for his Christian Broadcasting Network. It was a success, and more telethons followed. In 1966, Robertson developed a daily program focused on prayer and ministry. "The 700 Club" evolved to cover major news events and investigative reporting, but the show always held true to its Christian background.
