Abiotic factors of a coniferous forest include precipitation, temperature, quality of soil and proximity to a large body of water. These abiotic factors will vary according to the particular coniferous forest biome.
The Pacific Northwest coniferous biome receives mild moist air from the Pacific Ocean. It receives abundant rainfall during three seasons: winter, fall and spring. In the summer, this forest is cool and dry, and average precipitation is 20 inches per year.
The Russian taiga biome is considered to be a temperate coniferous forest. Abiotic factors of this biome include extreme temperature variations, heavy snowfall, poor and leached podzolized soils and its location away from the sea.
