Is acetate fabric washable?

Acetate fabric is washable, although washing by hand or on the gentle cycle of the washing machine is best. Cold water is recommended for this type of fabric due to the higher possibility of dye transfer to which acetate fabric is susceptible.

Acetate is a synthetic fabric widely used in shirts, blouses, bathing suits, underwear and sports clothes. It is also blended with other fibers to achieve an attractive draping quality. It is not, however, a strong fiber. The twisting and intermingling of laundry during a regular cycle proves potentially damaging to articles made from acetate, so it is best not to include them in such a load.
