Does acrylic fabric shrink?

Acrylic fabric can shrink in high heat, but is fine in normal-heat laundering. For best results, though, washing in lukewarm water is best.

Acrylic can be machine-washed and dried. Hand-washing, however, is best for delicate acrylic sweaters and scarves.

Step 1: Prepare the water

Fill a sink with lukewarm water and submerge the acrylic item.

Step 2: Add the soap

Add a cap of wool-wash or other mild detergent to the warm water.

Step 3: Wash the item

Lightly scrub the soap into the item by hand, and work the acrylic fabric through the soapy water.

Step 4: Rinse the soap out

Rinse the acrylic item with cold water to get rid of the soap. Gently squeeze the fabric, then line dry or spread it flat to air dry.
