How do you add decimals?

To add decimals, first write down the numbers, one below the other, with the decimal points in line with each other. If the numbers have different numbers of digits, add zeros to shorter numbers to equalize the length. Then add from right to left using column addition.
For instance adding 1.345 to 2.1 is as follows:
Line the decimals up: 1.345
+ 2.1
Add (pad with) zeros: 1.345
+ 2.100
Add, beginning from the right-hand column: 1.345
+ 2.100
= 3.445
There is little difference between adding decimals and whole numbers. The secret is setting up the problem in the correct way.
