The address for Willamette National Cemetery is 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, OR 97086-6937. Visiting hours and cemetery policies are available on the Department of Veterans Affairs website.

The cemetery is located 10 miles southeast of Portland and is on the Multnomah and Clackamas County lines. The cemetery came to be as a result of lobbying by several veteran's organizations for a Portland area cemetery. In 1941, Congress passed Public Law 388, which authorized the Secretary of War to establish a cemetery near Portland. After World War II, the state donated 102 acres for the cemetery, and subsequent donations later brought the total area to slightly over 201 acres.
