An affidavit of ownership declares a recipient the valid owner of the piece of property stated in the affidavit. It is used in addition to deeds and titles, according to Rocket Lawyer.
An affidavit of ownership can be used to prove ownership of land, property and vehicles to a lender, such as a bank. These forms explain the details of the ownership, such as whether it came about through purchase or through inheritance. Some states also require a certificate of title or a real property deed attached to an affidavit of ownership. Affidavits of ownership are also known as ownership affidavits.
