What are some facts about the African grassland food web?

As with any complex food chain, the food chain of the African savanna (grassland) is composed of a hierarchy of carnivores that eat herbivores, which eat basic producers. At the bottom of the food chain lie the scavengers and decomposers, which break down any remaining matter.

Some of the carnivores of the African grasslands include lions, hyenas and leopards, while some of the herbivores are impalas, warthogs and cattle. Producers that provide food for the herbivores include grasses and other plant matter. Decomposers live at the bottom of the food chain, and these bacteria, fungi and termites break down remaining organic matter.
