The average planned age of retirement for dentists in the United States is 65.5, according to a survey conducted by the American Dental Association in 2010.
The American Dental Association noted that there are differences between the planned retirement age of surveyed dentists, based on age and gender. Dentist over 40 years old stated their planned retirement age as 66.9, while dentists under 40 said they planned on retiring at 60.8. Female dentists had a lower planned age of retirement than male dentists, with female dentists giving an average of 62.4 as their planned retirement age while male dentists' average was 66.4
