Medicare coverage starts when an individual turns 65. If the individual signs up the month he turns 65, his coverage starts a month later. If the person waits a month after he turns 65, coverage doesn't start until two months after he signs up.
By waiting two months after turning 65, a person eligible for Medicare doesn't start receiving coverage until three months after his sign-up date. Coverage doesn't start until three months after the sign-up date if the individual waits three months after turning 65.
Medicare is a two-part plan. Part A consists of hospital insurance and part B covers medical insurance.
