At what age should a person start worrying about his PSA levels?

Men should begin getting PSA tests to check their prostates beginning at age 50, according to the National Cancer Institute. Medicare and many private insurers cover annual PSA testing for men over the age of 50.

The prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, test measures the concentration of PSA in a man's bloodstream, states the National Cancer Institute. If the patient has high levels of PSA in his bloodstream, then his PSA may need to be checked frequently to see if it continues to rise. If the level continues to rise, and is very high, then the man may need to be further tested for prostate cancer.
