How do you aim a satellite dish?

A satellite dish can be aimed with a receiver, a television and a person to assist by adjusting the angle of the dish on the roof until peak signal strength is achieved. A commercial meter can replace an assistant and with more accurate results.
From the provider's website or customer service, the needed elevation and azimuth settings can be found that the dish must be aligned to. Loosen the bolts on the dish to adjust the elevation of the dish, and physically turn the dish in an arc to angle it in the correct direction with the aid of a compass. By having an assistant stand at the television and communicate while it is in setup satellite mode, the optimal signal strength can be found.
