What is the Air Force Base Exchange?

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, or AAFES, is a chain of retail stores that exclusively operate on military bases. Customers must be serving in or retired from the military, or be an immediate family member of someone who meets these qualifications.

AAFES also operates an online store, though the same military service requirements apply to place an order. The inventory and layout of AAFES stores is comparable to "big box" retail stores, such as Wal-Mart, Kmart or Meijer. There are over 3,100 retail locations worldwide. In addition to the retail stores, AAFES operates fast-food franchise locations on military bases, such as Burger King and Cinnabon.
