What is Air Force pararescue?

The Air Force Pararescue is an enlisted position with the Air Force that works to save lives by parachuting, rock climbing, snowmobiling or scuba diving into hostile territory to reach a wounded Airman. Those in Air Force Pararescue are also trained in emergency medical tactics.

These individuals are trained extensively in survival techniques. It is necessary for them to be on alert 24 hours a day. The position is only available to men. Pararescue receive eight and a half weeks of basic training, and then they go on to technical training about the position. The technical training consists of 50 college credits earned. Air Force Pararescue support special ops combat search and rescue personnel.
