Alaska is over twice the geographical size of the state of Texas and about one-fifth the size of all of the lower 48 states put together. The Last Frontier and the Lone Star State represent the two largest states in the Union.
In terms of population, Texas ranks second to California, with an estimated 26 million residents as of 2013. With a population of roughly 700,000, Alaska has fewer residents than most states, beating only North Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming and making it the least densely populated state. Eight cities in Texas are larger than Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, which has an estimated population of 300,000.
