What is an albino roach?

An albino roach is actually a roach that is newly molted. All roaches turn white when this occurs. When a roach outgrows the outer shell, it splits and is shed. The skin underneath appears white but hardens and darkens within a few hours. The discarded shell acts as food.

Baby roaches emerge from fertilized eggs through force and appear white for less time than their adult counterparts. Each time a baby roach molts, the amount of time it appears white directly thereafter increases. The exact number of molts a roach undergoes in a lifetime depends on the species of the roach.
