Depending upon the species, a whale's stomach can be enormous, holding up to 2,200 pounds of food in the case of the blue whale. This whale's main diet consists of krill and copepods filtered through stiff, comb-like teeth called baleen plates.
Blue whales are the largest animals in the world, exceeding the size of even the largest dinosaur. Their average size is between 80 to 90 feet long. Blue whales are mammals, bearing live young by migrating to the tropics. A baby blue whale, called a calf, gains around 200 pounds a day. By the age of 6 months, calves generally grow up to 50 feet long.
