How big are a hippo's teeth?

The hippopotamus's front teeth, called incisors, can reach 1.3 feet in length, while the canine teeth may grow as long as 1.6 feet. The hippopotamus has the largest canines of any land animal. Male hippos have slightly larger teeth than females.

The hippo uses its large teeth for fighting off other animals or humans that they see as threats. The canines and incisors play no role in feeding. Hippos are herbivores and eat about 80 pounds of grass on a daily basis. They rely on their broad, horny lips to grasp and pull grasses, which are then ground by the molars.
