Algeria is famous for its sand dunes and mosques. According to World Guides, Algeria's greatest attraction is the natural sand dunes of the Sahara Desert. The Grand Erg, a spectacular field of sand dunes, is in the northeast of Algeria, North Africa.

Algeria is also famous for its mosques, including the Great Mosque (Jamaa el-Kebir), which is the oldest and dates back to the 11th century. The New Mosque (Jamaa el-Jedid), built in the 17th century, has a minaret that is 89 feet high. Casbah, a town divided into upper and lower regions, is a historical architectural wonder dating back to the Ottoman period. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992.
