An alkyd paint is a paint that acts like an oil-based paint but in reality has no oil within its chemical makeup. Alkyd paint uses include furniture, cabinetry and trims, or any other surface requiring a high gloss yet durable finish.
Alkyd paints use thinners such as solvents and spirits unlike oil-based paints, which use oil as a thinner and latex paints, which use water. Additionally, alkyd paints use synthetic resins as the binder agent, whereas latex-based paints use latex as the binder.
Alkyd paints have a good resistance to humidity and moisture. Popular rooms for alkyd paints include bathrooms, play rooms and hallways.
