When is the alligator mating season?

The mating season of the American alligator typically lasts from April to June. During this time, the overall activity level of alligators increases. Mother alligators move to build nests, while juvenile alligators try to avoid encounters with adult alligators because adult alligators are known to occasionally kill juveniles.

American alligators live in the Southeastern United States. Male alligators grow up to 15 feet in length and can weigh nearly 1,000 pounds. As apex predators, alligators have no natural enemies and prey upon mammals, amphibians, fish and whatever else they can catch. Alligators create habitats for other animals by digging alligator holes.
