The almond nut grows on a medium-sized tree with spreading branches. A newly planted almond tree begins to produce an almond nut crop after three years, and the nuts are typically harvested in late August. The tree grows light pink flower blossoms between March and April.
A typical almond tree can grow from 13 to 33 feet in height and have a trunk diameter of up to 12 inches. The almond nut takes up to eight months to mature after initial flowering. Almond trees reach full crop-bearing maturity between five to six years after planting. The trees require a climate with a frost-free winter and a dry summer.
