Do bananas grow on trees?

Bananas do not grow on trees, although banana plants can grow to be 25 feet tall. The sturdy stems of banana plants are composed of densely packed leaves and contain no woody tissue. Thus, the stems are not trunks; instead, they are pseudostems.
Banana leaves are also relatively large, sometimes extending up to 9 feet in the air. The banana plant is, in fact, the largest perennial herb in the world. Therefore, bananas are technically classified as berries of the plant. The banana fruit contains pulp and seeds from a single ovary and is often classified as an epigynous berry.
