How do you grow a banana plant?

Grow a banana tree by planting it in a good location, preparing the soil, watering the tree regularly, mulching the area and fertilizing the plant. You need water, mulch, fertilizer and a banana tree.
- Choose a good location
Choose a location for the banana tree that is exposed to plenty of sunlight. The more light exposure it has, the more fruit it produces. A banana tree needs a humid location where temperatures range between 67 degrees Fahrenheit and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit can damage or kill the tree.
- Prepare the soil
The soil needs to be well-drained. If it is too dense, add organic matter, and work it several inches into the soil.
- Plant the tree
Dig a hole, and place the banana tree in the ground. Fill in the hole with soil.
- Water the plant regularly
Water the banana tree regularly. It needs 4 to 6 inches of water per month. If the temperature rises above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, water the tree more than once a day.
- Mulch the area
Remove all the weeds around the tree, and add a thick layer of mulch to inhibit weed growth and keep the soil moist. Use wood chips or other organic mulches.
- Fertilize the tree
Using a 6-2-12 fertilizer, feed the tree at least four times a year.
