Do you have to have already made designs to get into FIT?

To apply for admission to an Art and Design program at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, a person must submit a portfolio after the SUNY application has been accepted. It is not necessary to submit a portfolio to get into the Business and Technology programs.

The specific portfolio requirements differ depending on the major within the Art and Design program. Detailed instructions for each major portfolio are available on the FIT website. For example, the fashion design portfolio consists of a design test (original fashion design artwork), a sewing test (photographs of sewn garment samples), a written essay and a portfolio cover page.
