Do you have to pay to see an NHS dentist?

The NHS charges a small fee when getting dental treatment. It is one of the only health services that includes a fee. The fee varies based on emergency treatment or different levels of treatments.
Different individual items within each course of treatment are not generally charged a separate fee. There is one fee for each course of treatment. For example, Band 1 course of treatment includes x-rays and diagnosis, examination, cleaning and polishing of the teeth and preventative care. There is a single fee for all these procedures.
The Band 2 level of treatment includes all treatments in Band 1, in addition to a root canal, removing teeth and fillings. Crowns, bridges, dentures and additional work are in Band 3.
