Where is my amended return?

Once an amended return is filed, it can take up to 12 weeks for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to process it. The IRS website has a "Where's My Amended Return?" tool to track amended returns. No information can be provided until the return has been processed.

Due to errors on the return, the wait time for the return to be processed might be longer. Such errors include an incomplete and/or unsigned return. If the IRS needs more information to completely process the return, contact will only be made by mail.

The information needed to track an amended return includes Social Security number, date of birth and zip code.
