What is an American Express Membership Rewards card?

Several types of American Express cards earn membership reward points, including Amex Everyday, Business Gold Rewards, Mercedes Benz and Morgan Stanley cards, according to American Express. Enrollment in the rewards program is free for holders of some types of cards.

Customers can redeem reward points for flights, cruises and vacation packages, says American Express. Eligible cardholders may also use points to purchase gift cards for restaurants or buy admission tickets to theme parks and movie theatres.

Reward points may also be applied toward purchases on the customer's monthly billing statement, reports American Express. Points are credited to the account within 48 hours of the customer's request.
