What is an American manicure?

In an American manicure, the base of the nail is painted with a nude tone and the tip is painted with a neutral tone such as ivory or off-white. The American manicure is an evolution of the French manicure.
According to the Daily Mail, in a French manicure, the base is painted with a soft pink or nude tone, but the tip is painted with a stark white color, creating a look which appears mostly natural and yet very manicured. An American manicure is a less brash version, creating a look in which the nails appear completely natural and yet are beautifully polished. In an American manicure, the tip and base colors are typically blended together more naturally.
